UM, SO THEN AFTER THAT, THIS WAS A COUPLE MONTHS LATER, I CAME BACK AND I SAID, HEY, I HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY HERE AND IT COULD BE A NICE TEST RUN FOR YOU ALL TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS THE IMPACT ON DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT THEY CAN REALLY BITE OFF ON A, ON A MUCH LARGER SCALE? RIGHT? I SAID, YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING VERY SMALL THAT WILL TAKE, I MEAN, IT'S GOING TO TAKE LESS THAN A WEEK. WE'RE HEARING SOME REALLY GOOD NEWS FINALLY. UM, AND THEN, YOU KNOW, JUST DRIVING, UH, ACROSS THE CITY TO GET HERE TODAY, YOU CAN ALSO SEE SOME OF THIS STUFF HAPPENING. YOU CAN SEE THE PROGRESS AT PARKVIEW. UM, WHEN I HEAD TO THE OFFICE IN THE MORNINGS, YOU CAN, I CAN SEE THE CHANGES HAPPENING IN, UH, THE DICKINSON PLAZA, UH, SHOPPING CENTER. WELL, YEAH, I, I I KNOW WE WANNA GET OUTTA HERE, BUT, UM, WHAT I, I DID WANT TO, YOU KNOW, AT AT, AT THE LAST CITY COUNCIL MEETING, UH, SEVERAL PEOPLE SPOKE ABOUT THE, YOU KNOW, EDC, UH, RAISING QUESTIONS ABOUT, YOU KNOW, DEMOGRAPHICS, UH, RETURN ON INVESTMENT, TRANSPARENCY, UM, AND REALLY, YOU KNOW, OUR OVERALL EFFECTIVENESS. SO, UH, FIRSTLY I WANNA TAKE A MOMENT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THOSE COMMENTS AND THANK EVERYONE WHO TOOK TIME TO COME OUT AND SPEAK. UM, YOU KNOW, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, UH, ISN'T AN AN ABSTRACT IDEA. UH, YOU KNOW, IT DIRECTLY AFFECTS, UH, OUR, OUR TAX BASE INFRASTRUCTURE, PROPERTY TAX, AND, UH, THE EVERYDAY QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE PEOPLE IN DICKINSON. AND SO I THINK PEOPLE ARE RIGHT TO EXPECT RESULTS, UH, ACCOUNTABILITY AND, AND REALLY CLARITY FROM THE BOARD. IT'S ALSO IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE THAT, UM, UH, THAT THIS IN MANY RESPECTS IS A NEW EDC BOARD. UH, OVER THE PAST YEAR BOARD MEMBERS, UH, THE BOARD MEMBERSHIP HAS, UH, TURNED OVER SIGNIFICANTLY. AND, UH, THE GROUP SITTING HERE TODAY SHARES THE COMMON OBJECTIVE, WHICH IS TO HELP DICKINSON GROW ITS COMMERCIAL BASE AND IN A DISCIPLINED AND MEASURABLE WAY. SO WE'VE ALREADY HEARD, UH, WE TALKED ABOUT IT TODAY, WE'VE GOT CREDIBLE PROJECTS UNDERWAY WITH THE POTENTIAL TO MEANINGFUL IMPROVE OUR ECONOMIC OUTLOOK. UH, THEY'RE BACKED BY EXPERIENCE DEVELOPERS WITH REAL CAPITAL AND THEY HAVE CLEAR PATHWAYS TO GROWING OUR COMMERCIAL TAX BASE. UM, ON THE TOPIC OF TRANSPARENCY, I BELIEVE WE'VE TAKEN MEANINGFUL STEPS FORWARD. THE EDC WEBSITE NOW LISTS ALL THE PROPERTIES OWNED BY THE ORGANIZATION AND OUTLINES ACTIVE PROJECTS ALONG, ALONG WITH THEIR EXPECTED ECONOMIC IMPACT. STAFF UPDATES ARE STRUCTURED AROUND, UH, THE PROJECT'S PROGRESSED, UH, SO THAT, UH, THE DISCUSSIONS ARE MORE SUBSTANTIVE AND CURRENT. WE'VE ALSO BEGUN OFFERING DEEPER BRIEFINGS ON MAJOR INITIATIVES TO PROVIDE CLEAR VISIBILITY INTO TIMELINES AND ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES, LIKE THE DETAILED PRESENTATION THAT, UM, OUR DIRECTOR DAVE FK RECENTLY PROVIDED ON BAYOU VILLAGE. UH, AND SO ANY RATE, I ALSO WANT TO THANK YOU DAVID AND, AND CAITLYN FOR IMPLEMENTING THESE IMPROVEMENTS. UM, AND I ALSO WANNA THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO, UH, YOU KNOW, CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT. I ALSO WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT CERTAIN MATTERS ARE DISCUSSED IN EXECUTIVE SESSION. THOSE TYPICALLY INVOLVE PROPERTY NEGOTIATIONS, PENDING LITIGATION OR SENSITIVE DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENTS WHERE PRE PREMATURE DISCLOSURE COULD PLACE THE CITY IN LEGAL JEOPARDY OR AT A STRATEGIC DISADVANTAGE. WHEN THOSE MATTERS ARE F UH, FINALIZED, UH, OR APPROPRIATE FOR PUBLIC DISCUSSION, THEN THEY'RE GONNA BE BROUGHT FORWARD INTO OPEN SESSION. UM, REGARDING PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT, I AGREE THAT ALIGNMENT WITH CITY COUNCIL ON WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE AND HOW IT'S TRACKED IS IMPORTANT. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IS A LONG, IS LONG CYCLE OF WORK, BUT THAT DOES NOT LESSEN THE RESPONSIBILITY TO DEMONSTRATE FORWARD PROGRESS. SO OUR FOCUS, UH, IS TO PROPOSE PROJECTS THAT STRENGTHEN THE TAX BASE, ENHANCE DICKINSON'S COMPETITIVENESS AND SU SU SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE GROWTH, AND TO COMMUNICATE THAT WORK CLEARLY AND CONSISTENTLY. SO I APPRECIATE THE CONSTRUCTIVE SUGGEST SUGGESTIONS AND INPUTS, UH, FROM THE, THE, THE, THE PEOPLE OUT IN THE COMMUNITY.
